Afro-Cuban Funk Band to be Featured in “Miami Sound” Concert

Miami, FL (June 4, 2015) – PALO! has been chosen to open for Grammy-winning salsa legend Willy Chirino for a unique concert, “The Miami Sound”. This will be the first time that Chirino and PALO! share the same stage. Carlos Oliva will be featured as a special guest artist.

PALO! has emerged as one of the hottest bands in tropical music. They will open the show on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 8:00 PM. Part of the CUBA BEAT series, this concert will be presented in the Knight Concert Hall at Miami’s Adrienne Arsht Center.

“We’re excited to feature a special performance by PALO!, a band that represents the new generation of The Miami Sound.” said Willy Chirino, widely recognized as the creator of the Miami Sound, a unique fusion of Cuban music, pop, rock, jazz, Brazilian and Caribbean rhythms.

“I’m so honored that PALO! is opening for Willy, my friend and mentor.” said Steve Roitstein, PALO!’s pianist and leader. “He gave me my first big break; I have great admiration for him.” Some of the Platinum and Gold Chirino albums that Roitstein co-produced include Acuarela del Caribe (1990), Oxígeno (1991), South Beach (1993) and Asere (1995).

PALO! has carried their own brand of the Miami Sound to international recognition. They received a Grammy nomination for Best Tropical Latin Album 2015 for PALO! Live, which also garnered a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Tropical Album. The five-piece group has enjoyed recent sold-out shows and festivals in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Boston, and of course, their hometown, Miami. Tours to other U.S. and Canadian cities are booked for the upcoming months.

PALO! originated in 2003, combining elements of Salsa music with funk rhythms and jazz for a distinctively seductive sound. Their shows captivate audiences with catchy songs that dancers find irresistible. In addition to Roitstein, PALO! is comprised of vocalist Leslie Cartaya, saxophonist Dr. Ed Calle, and virtuoso percussionists Philbert Armenteros and Raymer Olalde.

The CUBA BEAT series is a celebration of Cuban music, its genres and its creators. The concert series is produced by Nelson Albareda.
