“La Habana Buena” has been a favorite of PALO! fans since the band first started back in 2003. We traditionally close our concerts in clubs and festivals with this song, and the crowds love to dance and sing along with us. The audio and video from this 2017 live performance were recorded at Ball & Chain in Little Havana, Miami, Florida.

“La Habana Buena” was written by our Latin Grammy-nominated lead vocalist, Leslie Cartaya, together with Havana resident Roly Rivero and PALO! leader & pianist Steve Roitstein. The song also features our incredible timbale player, Raymer Olalde, saxophonist David Palma, and Philbert Armenteros on congas. The song was produced and arranged by Steve Roitstein, and co-produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by our stellar sound man, Bobby Macuen. The video was edited by Kevin Hernandez, with photography by Carlos Miller, Oliver Espaillat, Tania Varela and Kevin Hernandez.

We think of this song like a poetic, nostalgic look back at old Havana. The lyrics are available in the description on the You Tube video. We’re very proud of Leslie’s virtuosic vocal performance, much of which was improvised on the spot. Raymer’s amazing timbale solo, the driving percussion rhythms, David’s fiery sax work, and Steve’s delicious fusion of Cuban Music and funk all combine to create our love letter to a Havana that most of us will never know.
